March Play Circle -- Offers inexpensive
movies during all UW-Madison sessions. Films
are shown Friday, Saturday and Sunday (MU
Movies) during fall and spring semesters.
In addition, the Lakeside
Cinema film series is offered year-round,
free of charge, on Monday evenings, either on
the Memorial Union Terrace at dusk, weather
permitting, or in the Stiftskellar at 8 p.m.,
and several other series (International
Cinema, Starlight
Cinema, Sneaks,
and Blow-Up
Cinema), run throughout the academic year.
- Hilldale
Theatre -- Two screens, one with DTS. Screens
primarily arthouse movies.
- Majestic
Theatre -- Located just off the Capitol
square, and recently rennovated, the Majestic
features classic and avant-garde
cinema and a weekly midnight showing of the
Rocky Horror Picture Show.
- Orpheum
Theatre -- An old-fashioned movie experience.
The main theater is the most ornate in Madison
and, with 1,800 seats, the largest theater in
the Midwest. Also features full digital sound.
Renovation recently completed including a "gracious
lobby and historic rebirth of the interior spaces."
The adjoining theater can seat 285. Located
on State Street in downtown Madison, near the
Capitol.
