"East of the Sun, West of the Moon" Group Exhibition

Saturday, March 21st, 2-8pm
2310 Packers Ave, Suite B

East of the Sun, West of the MoonTo celebrate the grand opening of the new home of PointyKitty Studios and Blackbird Marmalade Creations, we'll be hosting a group exhibition called "East of the Sun, West of the Moon," a visual interpretation of the Norwegian version of an old Scandinavian fairy tale as collected by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe.

Imagine a place where fantasy can be real and expressed through two and three-dimensional works.  Gnomes, dragons and other magical creatures share space with fairy prince dolls and woodland sprites. Comical and scary little critters pop up in odd places and bright colors balance the occasional darkness of a more shadowy realm.

If visions of Disney popped into your head, banish the thought, as these are not your parents’ mythology-based metaphors. This art challenges the modern attitude about these symbols, while honoring the belief that there is still room for them to be potent metaphors for the human experience.  There may be poetry or writings interspersed to ponder or spark a thought

The concept of this exciting exhibition was born when local artists gathered and began to explore why they did what they did artistically. They came to the realization that, in the realm of fantasy, their individual artistic expressions were intertwined and connected.

Spiritual, meditative, nature based, fanciful and sometimes a little dark, they were all connecting with the same intuitive energy as explored their own place in the world. The group decided that this connection, and its powerful creative force, could be shared with others. Thus the idea of this exhibition, which combines childlike innocence and whimsy with subtle adult undertones of acceptance and appreciation of differences.

Come and join us for an evening of women-made art, refreshments, and arts camaraderie!
